University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust Pathology provides services to the Royal Stoke University and County Hospitals and to 137 GPs in Staffordshire.

It is divided into nine main disciplines and each department has its own sub-disciplines and associated laboratories. In addition, it provides a number of national and regional reference services as well as undertaking research and development in the field.

UHNM Pathology Department

The Pathology Directorate provides a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment monitoring service for North and South Staffordshire and beyond. Each year Pathology analyses in excess of one million samples, making it one of the largest laboratories in the country, and we employ over 450 well-trained, experienced and dedicated members of staff.

A New Kind of Trust

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust was created in November 2014 following the integration of Stafford Hospital with the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, signalling a time of major, positive change in health services for the people of Staffordshire.

Overview

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) is one of the largest and most modern in the country. We serve around three million people and we’re highly regarded for our facilities, teaching and research. The Trust has around 1,450 inpatient beds across sites in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford.

Royal Stoke University Hospital

Royal Stoke University Hospital is one of our two sites. It is a large acute teaching hospital on the border of Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire.

County Hospital

Built in 1983, County Hospital is a hospital that is in the process of becoming a vibrant modern acute local hospital.
